Communications Systems EngineerRequired Job Skills:The Communications Systems Engineer must have a minimum of one (1) year communication and electronic experience in State Freeway and highway systems.
Job Description:The engineer will be responsible for maintaining the communication infrastructure systems of the freeways and highways for various California Department of Transportion (Caltrans) districts. The communication infrastructure includes, but is not limited to, data and video communication equipment, fiber optic and twisted pair cables, splice vaults, pull boxes, and cable termination facilities. Activities will include preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance,as well as inventory, testing and verification of communication equipment within the engineer's assigned area. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, DS1 multiplexers, SONET multiplexers, DACS, video multiplexers, VSAT terminals and all equipment associated with DSOs, ISDN, ATM, CCTV, wireless, dial-ups, lease lines, DSL and dedicated lines. Daily travel is required to reach the remote field equipment. A vehicle will be provided for work transportation purposes. All required electronics test equipment will be provided.
